TAD Figure Drawing/Other Sketches: 14 Oct 2010

The Art Department's pod in Richmond! Tonight was their figure drawing night, so I walked about 2 hours to get there, but it was well worth it. I got there a few hours early, so I got to ask the people there about the program, watch them work, and whip out a few sketches of my own. So here goes.

This is artist Josh George at work. I'm using watercolor. He's got a very interesting process, which is from what I saw: an underdrawing, covered in a collage, which is then painted on top of.

The next 2 are the sunset skies out the window. The clouds were moving a LOT.

Now the figure drawing. Most are Photoshop, but 3 and 5 are pencil, while 4 is ink. My laptop (I call it THE MACHINE) was running out of power, and I didn't notice a plug in reach until halfway through.

SOCA Figure Drawing

Its been a while since my last post, but in that time I've moved to Richmond as a student of Virginia Commonwealth University. They've got a group there, SOCA (Society of Communication Artists), that meets for figure drawing most Fridays. Typically its 5, 10, and 15 minute poses. Without further ado, here's what I have from tonight and last Friday.

Self portraits: 3 in a day

Yeah, did 3 today. I'm an addict and a narcissist. (I was really kinda getting bored with the Joe Ducreux redux on Facebook) This exercise in self-portraitdom was triggered when I realised how the light my monitor projected affected the overall lighting. Here I'm experimenting with facial subtleties and lighting to work out a mood. In a way I can imagine these on a scale of good to evil alignment as if it were a videogame.

1: Neutral

2: Evil

3: Good
